Forging

Most work created by Spirit Ironworks involves work at the forge and anvil. Metal is heated in fire fueled by gas or coal to render the metal soft enough to be workable. The steel is heated to over 2000 degrees. It is then shaped using the blows of hammer over the face of an anvil.  The specific methods of hammering produce different results. To a blacksmith metal becomes like a piece of clay when heated it can be shaped in many ways. Sometimes powered hammers and presses are used with larger sized materials. Although labor intensive some metalwork can be produced entirely at the forge. This is a highly skilled profession taking years of training and practice.
